Last year, at the final auction of the year, two calves were
sold, to help Michelle Libregts take care of her daughter after her husband,
Alex, passed away on November 25th,
2005.
I have made a
commitment to do this every year, until their daughter has finished school or she no
longer needs financial support.
I have
been discussing my commitment with Michelle, and together we have decided that
due to the recent tragedies in our community, we would like the money raised
through this year’s calf to be split to include all the children who have lost
their fathers this past year.
With your support, I wish to do this every year for the kids
who lost a parent. The only thing that I
would wish to change is that fewer children would need our help. I know that money will not buy happiness,
because you can’t put a price on kid’s fathers, but hopefully it will make
their misery easier. Let’s make sure
their financial futures are taken care of, for their lives will be hard enough
without their fathers. Let’s give them
chance to become whatever they wish to be in life, not what life forces them to
be.
Part 1
The calf being sold will be a grain fed, AAA, Angus steer,
weighting over 1200 pounds. If you choose to purchase the animal, you may wish
to keep the calf for yourself or donate it to families in need. The calf, once sold will be slaughtered, cut,
wrapped and frozen at Ben’s Meats. I
will personally deliver the meat, to the destination of your choice. Whoever receives this calf in the end will know
with each meal that so many were helped.
Beef producers, if you buy cattle for year-end, PLEASE, save a little
room in your budget and your heart for one more, even if you only own it for a
few minutes while we do the paperwork (manifest and sales receipt) for you to
keep.
Please keep in mind that this is the only calf that I have
and I’ve purchased for it over the course of the past year, specifically for
the purpose of selling it to help these children so that they may have decent
education and future. I hope this calf
will receive more support than any other single calf ever sold, because it
represents so much loss and will benefit so many young families. 100% of the money raised will be split
equally between the children, and be placed into a trust account, one for each
child, that will require two signatures (one from each side of the family to
withdraw money for the child’s needs).
Any and all bids or donations are welcome, whether it’s from
a single person, a family, a group, or a company. Anything to help these kids is appreciated,
even it if is just one single loonie. This
is the only calf there is to help these kids, so please bid, and show what a
helping hand is worth to you. Let’s make more than the current market price.
Part 2
There will be one more stuffed calf given to a child, with
$1000 cheque donated by myself, and a homemade Christmas calf baby blanket,
hand made by my mother, Sylvia Schan, accompanied by a complete list of every
person’s name, and/or Company that helped with the fundraiser. The child to receive this will be the first
child born between now and our furthest donation after 12 a.m. December
25th 2006. This
way, one calf will represent a life, not the loss of a life.
Rick Casson will be presenting this to the family as our
M.P., and a well-respected member of our community.
There will be a song followed by one minute of silence to
remember the ones lost before the auction begins.
